Problem Statement

The challenge in designing data-rich posters lies in balancing clarity and visual interest. Too much content overwhelms the viewer, while too little loses depth. My objective was to turn an information-heavy subject into a visual experience that guides curiosity rather than fatigue.

Research

I explored how small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) approach cyber security. The project drew on insights from “Das IT-Security Mindset” by J. Bindig, focusing on digital investment, attack frequency, and security awareness.

Analysis

I segmented SMEs into subgroups to compare data across dimensions such as investment scale, attack frequency, causes of data loss, and vulnerability types. These comparisons guided how I structured visual clusters within the final layout.

Design

Circular diagrams became the central visual metaphor. The goal was to design an eye-catcher that evokes motion and digital fluidity. Using gradients and glow effects in different shades of blue created depth and energy.

The eye-catcher was positioned in the upper half of the poster for immediate visibility. As viewers approach, detailed data becomes readable. All diagrams share consistent geometry and color logic to reinforce harmony and flow.

Testing

The poster (A1 size) had to attract attention even from a distance. I conducted two testings: color contrast evaluation on A4 prints, and live exhibition feedback at TH Ingolstadt.

“For a moment I thought the picture was moving.”

“When I saw the motive, I had to think of a security software.”

“It caught my attention, so I walked closer.”
